My name is Ruby Prinsen and I am a doctoral student supervised by Dr. Cor Baerveldt at the University of Alberta. My main academic interest is the intersection of social embodiment and physical intimacy (our bodies and sex), such as how romantic partners might impact the way we experience and perceive the world.

In 2018, I received my MSc in “Mind, Language and Embodied Cognition” from the University of Edinburgh. My thesis included an experimental task investigating the expansion of peripersonal space between romantic pairs, supervised by Dr. Elena Gherri. Before that, I earned a BA (distinction) in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Alberta. While there, I was a research assistant and independent studies student of Dr. Don Kuiken in the Phenomenology laboratory. Check out my CV here.

While my first love has always been academics, I have a passion for the crossroads of art, writing, and textiles, so I hope to not only write about my research interest here, but also provide updates about personal projects.
